Wooden Award

The Wooden Award, presented annually to the outstanding collegiate basketball Player of the Year, was founded in 1976 by Coach John Wooden and Richard “Duke” Llewellyn. A trophy is presented to the Player of the Year, depicting the five major skills embodied within the total basketball player, which are rebounding, passing, defense, shooting and dribbling. Drawing inspiration from the five skills for the 35th Edition of the Souvenir Program, invitation mailer, flier and advertisement, the concept of a photographic montage of these skills, recognizing past winners, such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Kevin Durant grace the cover. To further highlight the legacy and historical poignancy of the Wooden Award, the backdrop of the cover page is the cityscape of Los Angeles, which has always been the home to the awards ceremony. As well, a special trophy stands on a marble pedestal in a niche especially designed for it in the Main Lobby of the Los Angeles Athletic Club located in downtown Los Angeles.
